Painting is a form of therapy on the canvas. When challenged with difficulty emotions, I pick up the paintbrush and let the strokes speak. Art, for me, is the Physical manifestation of some of the internal battles I struggle to put into words. I’ve always struggled with putting my thoughts into words. Now I put my emotions into a collection of brush strokes.
In order to paint, I have to be honest with myself. Some pieces feel like my literal heart on the canvas and the risk is vulnerability.
But my art demands a deep reflection and vulnerability with piece. I paint the emotion that sometimes light up a room, celebrate the joys of being a black woman or display complex emotions.
My art is truly an extension of my experience. It encapsulates pure raw emotions of grief, anxiety, peace and sorrow.
